What to Expect from Therapyimg_0937-copy

Sessions offer couples and individuals an unbiased, non-judgemental space to talk, reflect on and consider relationship and personal issues.

Through discussion, clients are introduced to a different perspective which often helps to identify and address relationship problems by allowing clients to see another way of being.
During therapy we may look at your past and how this manifests in the present often influencing your behaviour, thoughts, actions and the way you interact with others.

Couples may be given communication techniques to practice at home, additionally, sex therapy consists of practical homework tasks which are set and discussed in therapy but are conducted at home between sessions.

Reasons for seeking help

Couples and individuals come for counselling for many different reasons. Here is a list of some common issues I have worked with, but it is by no means exhaustive:

  • Communication problems
  • Taking one another for granted
  • Arguing
  • Jealousy
  • Affairs
  • Separation
  • Cultural differences
  • Gender identity
  • Sexuality issues
  • Lack of intimacy/desire
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Difficulty reaching orgasm
  • Difficulty in achieving/maintaining an erection
  • Sexual difficulties due to ageing/illness/disability

First Steps

Counselling begins with an initial consultation which is a chance for you to tell me about your relationship problems. We will discuss what you would like to achieve from counselling. I can give you information about the way I work and what to expect from relationship counselling or sex therapy.
